Cat Scratching Clinic - Lesson 1

Yesterday, I posted a blog to discourage cat owners from declawing their cats. It was a wonderful article written by vet, Dr. Christianne Schelling. Since this is such an important cat health issue, I decided to research each lesson she presented so we can all become more-informed cat owners.
Lesson #1: Scratching is a natural cat behavior. Why?
- Grooming: Scratching removes the dead outer layer of their claws.
-
Body conditioning: Stretching and flexing their feet & claws.
-
Exercise: Promotes healthy activity and energy-burner.
- Marking: Establishes their territory by leaving both a visual & scent marks as they have scent glands in their paws.
