Socializing The New Cat

zuli2.jpgWell, we took the plunge. My husband has been talking about getting a new cat for a couple of weeks now. I’ve resisted. We live with the “perfect cat!” Surely no better cat exists than the “Doof,” but I’m fairly certain you’d disagree. Last week, we had a customer tells us about an abandoned cat. I called her rescuer in Tucson. She was found, pregnant alone in a city park. The poor little thing was tired, thin & hungry. Unfortunately, her rescuer’s “resident” cat was not in agreement with taking in strays so other arrangements were necessary as neither cat was content with the environment. We brought her home on Friday, situating her food, water, a litter box & a snazzy Lotus cat tree in her own private space. Named Azul for her stunning blue eyes, we’re calling Zuli. She’s very cautious. Not exactly what I would call shy, but hesitant to roam. Certainly, she smells Doofie and Doofie smells her. We’ve locked each in their own safe haven while the other rambled throughout the house, especially allowing Zuli a chance to find the nooks and crannies. After our vet visit today for her physical and to check for Feline Leukemia, they’re now ready to meet one another, I hope! This should be interesting! I just read a great article in the July issue of Feline Wellness titled, “The More The Merrier” which had some very helpful suggestions. So, this saga will continue….
